Tinea versicolor (pityriasis versicolor) is a long-term (chronic) fungal infection of the skin. Its is a skin condition caused by an overgrowth of Malassezia Furfur, also known as Pityrosporum orbiculare, a fungus. These thrives in oily areas such as the face, neck, shoulders, chest, back and folds of skin such as arms, skin under the breasts or groins. For more images see here
The affected skin changes color and becomes either lighter or darker than the surrounding skin. These show as small, scaly white, brown or pinkish spots on various parts of the body and may be darker or lighter than the surrounding skin. These become more prominent on exposure to sun. There can be itching and sweating.

A skin scraping that is examined under a microscope should show the yeast.
Homeopathy treats the patient from within, in a holistic way, without the application of any external application like the ointment. Treating this way is the only permanent way to cure these ailments. The ointments in the market only relieves these symptoms for a short duration of time and some times may drive the external manifestation to any internal organ and produce a disease internally.(AS HOMEOPATHS BELIEVE AND EXPERIENCE IN DAILY PRACTICE)

SO ALWAYS AVOID OINTMENTS FOR SKIN DISEASES..

Apart from the rubrics the two cross references are also useful.
The most results are from SEPIA, NATRUM MUR, CALCAREA ; BACILLINUM, THUJA, SULPHUR, TELLURIUM and PHOSHORUS.....
As from my experiences I feel that a fresh case in which no external application was done responded very quickly to the correct similimum. The cases where external ointments were applied to suppress the disease, multiple number of times, the response has not been so good. I treat these cases with the centismal and the LM potency.
