IMA against co-locating AYUSH hospitals

Ayush hospitals
Conceding to the demands made by the Kerala chapter of the Indian Medical Association (IMA), the Kerala government has decided to roll back its earlier decision to co-locate Ayush hospitals with primary health centres (PHCs) for facilitating patients to choose a system of treatment on their own choice. “Right now government has no such plan and the co-location will not be implemented.
We have changed the decision because of the opposition from the allopathic doctors’ association, so we are not proceeding for integration. Co-location is not a government policy now,” said Rajiv Sadanandan, principal secretary, health, When informed about the prevalence of co-location of health systems in other states including the neighbouring state of Tamil Nadu, the health secretary responded “many states do have the co-location system, but we do not have any such plan now”.

Homeopathy and ayurveda have gained acceptance world over

Homeopathy and Ayurveda
Highlighting the growing ‘coalition of allopathic and homeopathic’ systems of medical treatment, Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said that traditional forms of medicines like homeopathy and ayurveda have gained acceptance worldwide.
‘The acceptance of ayurveda, yoga and naturopathy, unani, siddha and homoeopathy (AYUSH), and homeopathy in particular, are accepted in over 100 countries,’ Azad said while launching the book ‘The Banerji Protocols: A New Method of Treatment with Homeopathic Medicines’ . ‘Traditional medicines from India like ayurveda are not confined to the boundaries of India,’ he added. Compiled by homeopathy experts Prasanta Banerji and Pratip Banerji, the ‘The Banerji Protocols’ is a new system of medicine in which specific homeopathic medicines are prescribed for specific diseases. ‘The protocol can be used safely. Medicines are eco-friendly and the treatment is comparatively cost-effective with regard to other medical treatments. ‘The Banerji Protocols’ has been forwarded to the Indian Council of Medical Research for further action,’ said Azad.

Uttar Pradesh government gets 3000cr for NRHM

Uttar Pradesh NRHM
The Government of India has earmarked a sum of Rs 3,043.88 crores to the Uttar Pradesh government for implementation of the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) in financial year 2013-14. The amount is about 12% more than what was allocated last year.
Officials in the state health department informed that the funds were announced in a meeting on Tuesday and a formal intimation was sent here on Thursday. The amount, however, is not final and the UP government can ask for sanctions up to Rs 1,460.34 in the supplementary proposals. But the allocations in the second round would be subject to certain conditions mentioned by Ashish Verma, director NRHM, India in a letter to the UP government. The letter states that timely submission of statutory audit report and utilisation certificates for the financial year 2011-12 was essential for the release of the first installment. Similarly, the second installment will not be released unless the state sends the statutory audit report for the year 2012-13 to the ministry officials.
